Introduction: Witnessing a Movement
As a photographer and videographer, I had the privilege of documenting the Pleo Reachout Organisation CIC’s Ability Matters Conference, and it was a truly inspiring experience. From the moment Chief Ambassador Chioma Oti-Osammo welcomed everyone, you could feel the passion and dedication in the room.
“It’s inspiring to see so many passionate advocates, professionals, community leaders, caregivers, and individuals with lived experiences gathered today,” she said, and that really set the tone for the entire event.
My Role: Documenting the Key Moments
My job was to capture the key moments, the discussions, and the connections being made. I filmed 12 sessions and took over 450 photographs, all edited for social media and marketing. These visuals are designed to help share the conference’s message and highlight the important work Pleo Reachout is doing.
Pleo Reachout’s Impact: Building a Community
Chioma talked about the organisation’s progress, including their successful seminars and the groundbreaking Pleo Awards and Gala Night, which focused on Black and ethnic minority people living with disabilities and their carers. The conference addressed the crucial topic of “enabling ethnic minority communities living with disabilities: strategies for inclusive support and resilience building.”
Insightful Discussions: Addressing Key Challenges
The discussions were focused and insightful, addressing the specific challenges faced by these communities and exploring ways to improve support and accessibility. I was able to capture the valuable networking, the expert insights, and the practical strategies that were shared.
Driving Positive Change: Beyond the Event
It was clear that Pleo Reachout is making a real difference. They’re not just hosting events; they’re building a community and driving positive change in Milton Keynes and beyond. The dedication of the policy makers, community organisations, and advocates present was evident in every session.
Conclusion: Sharing the Message
I’m proud to have documented this important event. The photographs and videos I captured will help to share the message of the Ability Matters Conference and support Pleo Reachout’s ongoing work. These captures are now used to help build a strong presence online and establish Pleo Reachout Organisation CIC as an influential force for change.
Postscript: Technical Information
For this event, I employed a two-video camera setup to ensure comprehensive coverage from various angles and to provide redundancy in case of card or equipment malfunction. Audio was captured both directly on the cameras and from the sound desk, again for backup purposes. Video lighting was provided to maintain consistent visuals throughout the sessions. Photographs were captured using two Sony high-resolution cameras equipped with multiple lenses. This combination of photography and video equipment delivered high-quality files, which were then edited using Adobe and Apple software.
